Genetic Counselling classes offered through Femade

Prenatal Genetics Class

Run by Meaghan Doyle, MS, CGC (she/her), a Certified Genetic Counselor specializing in reproductive genetics, this class will teach you everything you need to know about the different genetic tests available to pregnant people in Ontario. Your GP or OBGYN will review your genetic testing options with you, but they have a lot of things to talk to you about, and a lot of patients to see. If you want to make sure you are getting all of the details so you can make an informed decision, this class is for you! To make sure you have enough time to think through your testing options, we recommend you attend the class before your 12-week appointment with your doctor. Here’s an overview of some of the topics we’ll cover:

  • Genetics 101

  • Genetic tests covered by OHIP

  • Genetics tests you can pay for privately

  • How to decide if you want to do genetic testing

The prenatal genetics class is virtual, and takes place on Zoom. Meaghan will present the class, but you can ask questions in the text chat throughout. There will also be a question and answer period at the end of the class as well. Since this is a group class, no personal medical advice can be provided. Want one-on-one support tailored to you? Schedule a reproductive genetic counselling appointment with Meaghan instead!
