PHYSIOTHERAPY IN OTTAWA, ON

Physiotherapy at Femade in Ottawa, ON

At Femade, while the practice of Physiotherapy is generally consistent across any clinic in Ottawa, our practitioners take on a mind-body approach that not only helps being awareness to the pain signals to and from the brain to the body, but helps you become more mindful of your movements. Understanding that the pain sensations can be coming from one or a variety of locations, from an accident or an illness, growth, and development, our physiotherapists take the time to understand the body as a whole, and work to strengthen the body by incorporating gentle movements.

The goal of physiotherapy is to improve your movement, function, and wellbeing, all while encouraging you to be an active participant in the process. Using a variety of approaches and techniques, such as education, manual therapy, and therapeutic exercise, our practitioners will collaborate with you to build the confidence you have in your body and reach your personal goals. Whether you are experiencing pain that is all too familiar or starting to notice new symptoms, our practitioners are able to help you care for and take control of your body.

Some concerns that can be supported by physiotherapy:

  • Chronic Pelvic Pain and associated issues

  • Low back/SIJ/hip pain

  • Osteoarthritis

  • Chronic Whiplash-Associated Disorders (WAD)

  • Neuromusculoskeletal Symptoms Associated with Autoimmune Diseases

  • Walking properly and comfortably with a walker or crutches

  • Functional movements (eg. lifting, carrying a baby/carrier)

Physiotherapy vs Pelvic Floor Physiotherapy

Physiotherapy - also known as ortho physiotherapy - is less focused on the pelvic floor and generally focused on any musculoskeletal issues you are experiencing. When pain is acute (you have not experienced the sensations for too long ) treatment early on is very effective. As pain becomes more chronic, our focus becomes implementing pain-free movements and exercises to give you more mobility. Depending on the nature of the issue, it may involve strengthening the pelvic floor muscles as well. If you are experiencing pain or discomfort associated with the pelvic floor, hips, and surrounding tissues we urge you to explore pelvic floor physiotherapy.
